Do you remember a day when someone’s words to you crushed your spirit? How about a day when someone’s words injected life and hope into your troubled heart? Proverbs 16:24 tells the power of kind words; “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” Words can crush, and words can heal.
“You’re already encouraging and building each other up, but do it more!”
The Holy Spirit is right there, prompting us to notice the person who needs a kind word. For some of us, sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone. Just ask, and The Holy Spirit will tell us what to say. We may not even know which part of what we say is important. We just need to be the instrument that speaks the words that need to be said. This is actually what prophecy is all about.
I Corinthians 14:3 says, “But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.” The Holy Spirit whispers the words in our ears, and then we speak them. When we speak them, these words strengthen, encourage and comfort. But the words need to be said, and heard, to do their work. It’s that simple.
We just need to be the instrument that speaks the words that need to be said. This is actually what prophecy is all about.
Proverbs 12:25 explains how powerful our words can be when the weight of life becomes overwhelming. It says, “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” Intentionally seek to cheer up those around you. Being a blessing is a nice way to live. If enough of us seek to live our lives as blessings to others, it’ll change the world. Remember John 13:35; “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
