It may be the thought that counts, but it’s even better if your gift is appreciated and enjoyed! None of us want to see our Christmas gifts sold at garage sales in the near future. Here are some suggestions for gifts that may require a little thought, but are easy to obtain. These gifts will be a pleasure to give and are likely to memorably bless their recipients.
7 Gifts That Are Fun To Give
1. Consumable gifts are less likely to be hidden in drawers for years. People love yummy gifts! It's much less expensive, and much more personal, to buy and create your own custom gift basket than to buy one that is pre-made. Purchase fruit, gourmet jams and crackers, sweets, boxes of herbal teas, etc., to make your own edible gift selection. Wrap the items ornately by placing them in a basket, box or gift bag with a huge bow. Tah dah!
2. Make a stocking for someone for whom no one makes a stocking. Some people no longer have someone who can or will take the time to pick up little fun and sweet items to fill a stocking for them. Stocking filling can be fun, in itself! A trip through a dollar store, a stationary store and/or the coffee/tea or gourmet aisle of the grocery store can produce a package of delight for someone, especially if you know his or her taste well. Find a nice stocking at a department store and fill ‘er up. Opening a stocking full of gifts, individually wrapped if you have the time, or not, can be a memorable and happy experience. Imagine how loved someone would feel to have such attention to the details of the little joys in his/her life.
Studies show that teens and tweens, unlike some older adults, tend to use gift cards up right away, happily!
4. Give your favorite game, and insist on playing it together. Some highly enjoyable games are never opened and used because people don’t know how fun they are. Give the gift when there is time to play. Given with hot chocolate or a bag of coffee, expand the experience to enjoying hot drinks, Christmas music and the holiday spirit together.

6. Give monetary or gift donations to a favorite charity in someone’s name. Organizations like Compassion International have online catalogs where items like chickens can be bought for impoverished families. Check with places like animal shelters to see what their needs are and credit your gift recipient with your donation. It’s a win-win-win situation when a third party is included in the gift-giving process. This is especially true when people are passionate about a cause.
A gift given with anticipation and joy is a demonstration of our sincere affection for the recipient of the gift.
2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” The same is true for people, in general! A gift given out of obligation will sometimes expose itself as such, and we have done little to bless the person. A gift given with anticipation and joy, however, is a demonstration of our sincere affection for the recipient of the gift. It blesses them, and it blesses God.
Jame 1:17 explains that, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” When our gift truly blesses somebody, God gets the glory, because He is the true bestower of every good and perfect gift! We are merely the channel through which the gift is given. Give to represent God’s love for each gift receiver, and experience giving in a new way. It truly can be more blessed to give than receive! He is so good and generous to all of us! Merry Christmas!
